This module focuses on equipping students with the knowledge and skills to understand, apply, and manage preventive techniques for database threats. It begins by introducing Database Management Systems (DBMS), covering the various types of databases, architectures, structures, and languages. Emphasizing the critical importance of database security, students will explore the significance of securing data and the statutory and regulatory requirements, such as GDPR and BSS. The module delves into various database threats, including excessive privilege, default accounts, SQL injection, and denial of service attacks, and introduces students to security controls like physical and network security, OS-level controls, privilege access management, database logging, encryption, and backup processes. Additionally, students will learn about database security monitoring, focusing on activity and health monitoring, change management, and continuous vulnerability assessments. The module also covers industry standards and best practices for database security, ensuring students can apply these techniques in real-world scenarios.
